The Little Boss 197 2-Speed

The new B2-197 2-Speed has all the attributes of a workhorse in a miniature size. This little 2-speed is built to tackle the school size tunas that want to fight straight down like their big brothers. It’s two speed ratios gives you all the power to pick line up on a suicide run at the boat with the 6:1 high ratio or stop them dead in their tracks on a blistering first run down in the 3:1 low gear.

The New B2-197 has all the features of the big reels that include 6061 T-6 aircraft grade aluminum construction, Accurate’s patented TwinDrag™ System for a smooth powerful drag, Accucast™ Cast Control System for better accuracy and less backlashes, and Heat Treated Stainless Steel gears for the ultimate cranking power.

Other key features include 2 Stainless Steel anti-reverse bearings, heat treated pinion gears, unhindered free spool, and 7 ABEC rated stainless steel bearings sealed with Teflon® impregnation for added corrosion resistance.

Accurate reels, no matter what the size, are all built to withstand the abuse of the saltwater environment. They were created to handle the long haul, whether it’s a grueling battle with a worthy finned opponent or a 16 day boat ride down into the fishing grounds, that’s where the dreams become reality.

We love to fish and strive to create products that help anglers create memories of a lifetime.

ATD-50w Tough Enough for a 314# Yellowfin

April 10, 2008
The reason I’m writing you is too say, Thank you very much for loaning us the Accurate reels to try out. I must say that I was very excited to know that I would finally have an opportunity to fish with one these premium reels that I have been reading about for so many years. The truth is they are a superior fishing reel and they delivered much more than I could have imagined.

Not to bore you with a long fishing story, but I was fortunate - lucky enough to land a 314 lbs Yellow Fin Tuna wile using one of your 50w reel. The brute power of this fish totally shocked me, after the fish finally sounded deep I then started retrieving the 700 hundred yards of spectra that he took out on the initial strike, at that point I began to see what this reel was really made of. What a huge difference.

In the future I will be converting over to Accurate reels. You have definitely sold me on the quality and performance of your product.

Once again THANK YOU VERY MUCH,
Mark Frankenberger

TwinSpin 12 in Action

New TwinSpin 50

We released at the Tacke Trade World show in Amsterdam, Netherlands the New TwinSpin 50 spinning reel. This is the largest spinning reel on the market. We designed this reel for 450 yards of 130# spectra(baided line). This is a great reel for Marlin and Tuna. The response has been really good from our big game anglers. Look for it to hit the market in September 2008.

New Slant Power Handle

We have been working on the new handle for the Boss 30 & 50 2-Speed reels and came up with a really good design for the next generation of knobs. The New Power Handle Knob is at a 9 degree slant for more power and has criss cross machined groves on the back side for more grip. We debuted the knobs at the ICAST show in Las Vegas, Nevada in July with a great response. We plan on putting this new design on other models. Look for it in the coming months.

Team Old School

Every fall thousands of trophy Striped Bass venture South from New England

seeking warmer water.  These fish only stop when they find enormous quantities of forage.  Up North clams and menhaden are on the menu, but when they pour into the Chesapeake Bay, its eels.  We concentrate on the giant females that are smashing through schools of bait, inhaling anything that will fit down their throat.  During this very small window, these cows let down their guard and strap on the feed-bag.  Sure you can catch stripers all year, but the Chesapeake cows are only catchable for a short time.  One month a year at best, but it’s usually more like one week, or even one weekend.  So there you are, two weeks until Christmas,  you got off of work, and you talked a few buddies into coming along.  You talked your wife into letting you go.  You spend thousands to buy your boat.  You spend thousand on your electronics.  You spend thousands every year on fuel, maintenance, tackle, bait, licenses, boat insurance, boat tax, highway tolls, hotel bills, and Gortex winter gear.  What did that leaning post cost?

grand?  What did that T-top cost?  Four grand?  How about that diesel pick-up to haul that beauty, 50 grand?  Let’s not forget those aluminum mag wheels on the trailer that you had to have.  (Another grand)?  So there you are, smack dab in the middle of Trophy Striper Heaven and at the right time for once.  So grab that $100 rod and reel combo that you got at Wal-Mart and go to work!  It doesn’t take you long to realize that you brought a knife to a gunfight.  SNAP!  There goes another one (maybe I tied the wrong knot). SNAP!  (It must be the wrong fish finder).  SNAP!  (It must be the wrong T-top).  SNAP!  (It must be the wrong mag wheels).  Nope, it’s the wrong reels!

Sure, my crew works hard to catch trophy Bass.  We have caught our share of 50 pounders, but

we have never boated a trophy fish because of our MAG WHEELS!

My teammate and I caught 46 fish on one day this December.  Every fish was over 25 pounds.  Thanks to our Boss Magnum 870’s, we had 46 hook ups and 46 boated fish.  These reels are the smallest of the Accurate reels.  I can easily fit four of them in a 50 pounders mouth at one time.  When you get your hands on one of these reels, it quickly become apparent that you’re holding a different animal.  I can definitely see my Grandkids using these scratched up, banged up, reels 20 years down the

line. With 30 pound mono, we never even came close to getting spooled.  Notice I said “We caught all of those fish, thanks to our 870’s, not our mag wheels”.

Thanks again,
Mike Smedley

ACCURATE’S 870

NARROW TWO-SPEED

Forefront of Reel Designing

BY BRANDON HAYWARD / WON STAFF WRITERPublished: June 04, 2008Western Outdoor News Article Link

It seems like trends are always changing when it comes to the tackle that Southern Californian anglers gear up with.

As far as reels go, it’s safe to say that there are two major trends. One is going with small two-speeds for not just long range trips, but also local fishing. The other is companies developing and selling reels that are designed for one or two purposes, like, say, a jigging reel or something like that.

Accurate is one of the companies at the forefront of reel designing and innovation, and the Corona-based company has been pumping out more and more two-speeds over the last couple of years. Now pretty much all their Boss reels come in two-speeds.

The smallest of the Boss two-speeds on the market (at the time being, anyway) is the 870 narrow, which is called the B2-870N. It, like many new reels on the market, was designed with a specific purpose/application in mind.

“The 870 narrow was originally developed as a jigging reel for vertical jigging Japanese style knife jigs,” says Accurate’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ben Secrest, “but it’s a great reel for local fishing for tuna, yellowtail and marlin. I was down at Rancho Leonero the other week and was catching stripers on the 870 narrow … you can really do a lot with it — it’s just a killer reel for fishing 50- or 65-pound braid (as in braided line or Spectra) on.”

The 870 narrow falls into the category of being one of those reels that was designed for a specific purpose but ended up being a multi-tasker.

Sure, it can be used for deep jigging thanks to its narrow design and 6:1 high gears, but its perfect application for local and long range angling doesn’t revolve around just jigging.

Loaded up with 65-pound braid to a short piece of fluorocarbon the reel is an absolute killer (it holds a little less than 300 yards of 65-pound braid). It can be used as your heavy outfit for fishing big baits and squid on for yellows and seabass here at the local islands, while also being a winch of a reel to fish albacore with when they really want to die. If you hook a bluefin or something your bases are covered as well. It’s small and light, so you can fish it all day and uncork longer casts than you can with, say, a 4/0 loaded with 50-pound.

I’ve been fishing mine at Catalina a little bit when we’re really backed in tight to the kelp. It’s usually the heaviest rig I bring, that little 870 Narrow loaded with green 65-pound Jerry Brown Spectra to five feet of 50-pound Seaguar Fluoro

Premier. I fish it with a good 15 pounds of drag. If the hook pulls, it pulls, but either way the heat really gets put on any yellows or seabass (or bat rays) that get hooked on the rig. Low gear isn’t really always necessary for fishing “smaller game” here locally. With that said, the low gear is like a winch. It works out great when a fish gets you in the kelp and you literally have to winch in the whole stringer. (The picture of Jenni Cohen with her Catalina yellow caught on the reel shows just a piece of the fifty-plus-pound kelp stringer the 870 Narrow brought up with the yellow; hence the term “winch”).

So far as rods that match up with the 870 Narrow there are a bunch of candidates. One of them is one of Accurate’s new braid rods. Yeah, that’s right; Accurate now offers a complete line-up of rods that were designed for fishing specifically with braided lines. To the best of my knowledge they are the first company to offer rods that were built around fishing strictly with braid.

But then again, what else would you expect from a company that engineers their reels around fishing with the unforgiving nature of braided lines.

97.6 Pound Yellowfin Tuna on the Boss 270

Report by Bill Roecker for FishingVideos.com

Twenty anglers fishing with skipper Brian Evans on the Spirit of Adventure returned on the Citarella Charter when the boat docked at H&M Landing August 2. The trip was seven days and visited Alijos Rocks, where quality yellowfin tuna and wahoo were caught.

Pete Fallini of Santa Paula won first place for a 97.6-pound yellowfin he bagged with a sardine on a 4/0 ringed Super Mutu hook on 50-pound Big Game line, and Accurate 270 reel and a Calstar 700 MH rod.
