Capt Keith Denette "My Way" 385lb tuna
Here's the real deal everyone.

As most of you know, I'm not known to glorify any catch that I make
nor try to promote myself to make myself any bigger, but I'm here to
give the facts of how these two fish battles were won.

I'm very fortunate and appreciate the opportunity to Capt, rig some of the best boats to fish around the world and Puerto Vallarta has been my destination for the last 3.5 years and the capt's and crews have made this
place like home.

I do not have a Charter operation Puerto Vallarta, There are many great captains there that I can highly recommend using.

Not in any order from experience
Capt Danny Osuna-Marla Sport fishing 011-52-322-139-6312
Capt Danny Gomez-Damar
Capt Juan Moll-Top Gun
Capt Manny-Pacifico
and many more!

Puerto Vallarta has been on fire for the last 3 weeks and if you're after a world class tuna, I would make reservations asap!

My Way is a 45' Viking Express 08'
Angler:Rolf
Tackle 100lb Power Pro Braid
Rod:Ian Miller Stand Up w/ bent Butt
Accurate 50 2-speed
Owner 12/0 Offshore Hook
Time 2 hours 33 min.
Drag pressure 33 to 48 lbs

Our Day started like any other day, on board I had Rolf, Crewman Hector and Chino. We met with Hi-bo and tanked up with 100 fresh cabbi's and was running in the dark at 8 knts. By 8:00 we picked up to cruise at 32 kts and made the run to Roca Corbantania in just minutes. Upon arriving at the Rock
a few boats were trolling skippies and fishing for the smaller tuna.

Bait was easy, 6 in the tubes and 4 went out 2-long and 2-short. We fished
the north edge where we have had success for the last 2 days and the meter was lit up with cows. 2 passes on the edge and within 10 minutes I looked back to check my spread and all of my baits were nervous, big twitches and almost pulling out of the clips. Just before I could say a word, my left short exploded. I didn't get a good look at the fish but I new we had a cow on our hands. The fish ate the bait, Rolf left the clicker on but free spooled the reel.
After a 8 second run, the boat went foward and I advised to put the reel mid way to strike position.

Rolf caught this fish standup with the OTS harness and the XL Smitty.

The fish never made any big runs, just the standard 150 yds at first and the typical 25 yd zips throughout the entire battle.

No one touched the rod, reel or main line and Rolf hammered this fish. At first I was a little concerned about pulling the hook on this fish but I knew if we were ever going to get this fish in any time he would have to push the drag and palm the spool.

About 1.5 hours into the battle Rolf put the drag to 44 lbs and still the fish would take line when ever he wanted. Rolf's a big guy and just kept on hammering this fish, not allowing it to take any line towards the end, I think with the combination of drag pressure and palm pressure he easily had 48 lbs for the last hour.

Just as the fish came to color, he didn't want this fish to take any more line.
With palm on spool, and short pumps he brought this fish up within a couple of minutes. Just when the leader was going through the guides the rod broke!

Right then I yelled to Chino to grab the leader and hold on and not to let go of the line no matter what. This fish worked Chino for a little bit but he made good work on this fish and it came up. Hector stuck the fish and I came down to put the finishing touches on it.

After a few Hi-Fives I told the crew to cover this fish, pack Ice on it and keep it moist then asked Rolf if he was done for the day, and he looked at me as if I were crazy to leave so early on such a great day. He wanted to catch a big pargo.

But I insisted this fish could be easily over 350, then he said we have a scale to weigh on board, no need to go in. I knew I would liked to weigh this fish at the dock, but when your the Capt you have do what your clients wants.

So, during calm waters at Rock I scaled the fish on the Scalemaster 2 and the fish bounced from 387 to 402.

We packed the fish ice, over 100lbs and I hauled ass to make more bait and fish for a Pargo.

As I ran the north edge there's Danny hooked up and finishing off a cow for his clients and we pulled up and gave them a bunch of water and headed to
make bait.

After two drifts we get bit and we get a 82 lb Pargo.

The True name for this species is a Pacific Cubera Snapper, there are cuberas on the east coast that exceed 124lbs but the species is not the same.

After a quick call to Juan Moll on Top Gun and Danny on Marla to donate the rest of our Cabbies we headed in.

Right at the dock I rigged the scale and tackle and zeroed it and the fish weighed 385.

Rolf's not after pursuing world records like myself (I have 2) just personal bests and I think I did my job that day.

Thanks for the positive comments to all my friends out there. I'm just doing what I do best, Fish.

Thanks to Ned Washburn for making all of our leaders, Lawrence at Fishworks, Accurate, Eric at Eric's Tackle.

All Boss Gears 70% Stronger

Accurate had spent a lot of time researching gears with focus on material and in December 2007 we decided to make a change. In January 2008 we started to manufacture all of our Boss gears with 17-4 Stainless Steel instead of 303 Stainless Steel. With this change in material all Boss gears are 70% stronger! We started implementing this in the production of all of our Boss TwinDrag reels including the Boss 2-Speeds in the beginning of the 2008. This decision was made based on feedback from our loyal fishermen looking for gearing that would stand up to rigors of today's Japanese style of Jig fishing.

This change was primarily made based on based how long our gears were lasting for the jigging enthusiasts using our 665 narrow and 665 narrow-narrow reels. This type of fishing is really abusive to gears and we have seen some main gears wear out in less than a year of heavy usage. The new 17-4 material will bring our Boss reel line to an even higher level of toughness.

105# Yellowfin on Boss 665N 2-Speed

San Diego Long Range Report

Frank LoPreste docked his Royal Polaris September 19 after an excellent seven-day trip to Alijos Rocks. He weighed the best fish on the certified scales at Fisherman’s Landing, where the two biggest tuna exceeded the 100-pound mark. There were 31 anglers aboard.

“We have had another beautiful day of fishing and excellent weather,” read the boat’s report for September 15. “We caught limits of Yellowtail and daily limits of Yellowfin tuna, plus 2 Wahoo and 2 Dorado.

“We will stay here until 14:00 hours tomorrow, then spend the next day fishing kelps looking for Dorado and more Wahoo.

“Everyone is having a great time. Honors today go to Dave Uradomo who caught 2, 70 pound Yellowfin tuna, plus one close to 100 pounds. Hawk Holiday also had a fish that should go over 100 pounds, on 40 pound test on a Sardine.”

Regular Dave Uradomo of Torrance won first place for a 105.2-pound yellowfin that fell for a sardine on a 2/0 Gorilla hook.

Dave said he used 50-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon leader and 50-pound Blackwater Spectra on a new Accurate Boss 665 N 2-speed reel and a Calstar 800 H rod.

TwinSpin 20 Delivers on Long Range

Guys,

The recent 7 day trip aboard the Royal Polaris was awesome.

I got to test out the TwinSpin 20 on the Xnergy Rod.
It was great.  I pulled in 5 Yellowfin pretty fast.
The biggest was around 35 to 40 pounds.
I also tried out the 270c Two Speed.
I really like that reel.  50# spectra and a short top shot.

Great Yellowfin Tuna Off California Coast

I was on a Bongos 6 pack charter on September 11. After a 2 hour run to the 43 spot, our first stop was on a big kelp, and as we drifted away from it the yellowfin tuna started boiling on the chum. We were there for a long time and the 35-40# tuna never left us. We filled both fish holds and 1 bait tank with Yellowfin tuna before we left. I used my 2-Speed Boss 270 with 25# test and 50# spectra backing to sack 7 Yellowfin in 2 hours. What a difference the smooth TwinDrag and the low gear made especially when these tuna were in the circle with other fish hanging. I was in control, and took less time to put'em on the deck never losing a fish. What others took a half hour I was done in 15-20 minutes.

I Fished Hard thanks to Accurate!

319# Cow on the RRIII December 2007 Trip

We had a slow day on the cow pasture and only a hand full of small fish. We had just boated 1 nice yellowfin about 195 pounds. I thought it high time to catch a fish on my new Accurate Topless ATD-30, it was loaded with 600 yards of 100# spectra and 50 yards of 150# hollow with a Basil top shot with 100# Momoi and 2ft of 100# Black water fluoro carbon tied to a 5/0 Super Moto and a 2 oz sinker with a rubber band. I hooked on a Sardine and dropped it down and at 40 ft it got slammed.  The fish took about 400 yards first run. Andy helped me the whole time, up to the bow we went then back to the stern, I pretested about 30 pounds of drag (using a

scale a full). The fish went down and we worked about 75 ft of line for 45 minutes. We decided to bump up the drag. It was a big fish and it was just loafing along so up to 40 pounds we went (later I could not pull line off the reel with my hand), then we put a hurting to the cow. The drags were flawless, without this caliber of reel I would not have gotten a tuna this size on 100#, no way. Hooked up at 3:45 and stuck 5 gaffes in her at 5:15. She taped 310 pounds on board and later weighed 319 at the dock. This was a fish of a lifetime for me and on light gear.

A couple of days later we were in a nice bite on smaller fish so I told a friend that I was going to catch a tuna on a Mega Bait and my 80# rig an Accurate 12 500 yd of 80# hollow and 100# topshot Same jig I caught a 20# albie on last summer). Over the stern it went, and again about 40’ down it just stopped. And I was on and around the boat a couple of times, and around 5 or 6 circling tuna at the bow. Next thing I knew we looked down and their was a cow. On deck it taped 205 and weighed 219 at

the dock. Again the reel made the difference with their great drags and flawless performance it would not have happed.  Thanks Accurate the reels made the trip.

50# Rooster on Boss 270 TwinDrag Reel

The 50# Roosterfish  was caught off of the Gordo Banks about 6 miles off shore using a CalStar GFGR 700XLH 15-25 with 30lb Ande mono and 30 lb spectra, a sardine on an owner #2 hook with an Accurate B-270XC reel.  It ran on me 5 or 6 times before we landed it.  You can tune the drag within a pound predictably while playing with a fish like this! Fishing doesn’t get much more fun!

Boss 270 Triple Sweep

Little Reel Scores Triple Sweep

Royal Star arrived at Fisherman’s Landing September 7 after a five-day trip with 24 anglers. The fishing tour was conducted by Tim Ekstrom and Randy Toussaint, the boat’s owner-skippers.

“The outside treated us right today,” wrote Tim on September 4, “with a good day on both yellowfin tuna and big yellowtail in the beautiful, flat calm conditions this island is so well known for. It wasn't easy, which is typical for this island, but every angler who put in the time and effort at the rail had a few quality fish to show for it by day's end. I can't say that we were overly impressed with the signs of fish around but the results from our efforts demonstrated that there is presently more than meets the eye in this zone.”

All three jackpots were won by Dave Walker of Yorba Linda, who made a remarkable sweep with sardine baits and a very small reel. His fish weighed 90, 78.5 and 67 pounds. He fished with 4/0 Mustad hooks, 40-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon and 50-pound Izorline Spectra backing on his new Accurate 270 two-speed reel, mounted on a Calstar 665 rod.

“Everyone doubted the little reel had that much power,” said Walker on the dock. “But the little Boss 270 TwinDrag killed ‘em, just like deckhand Blake and Dave and Doug Nilsen at Accurate told me it would.”

Boss 270 Wins on Giant Rooster Fish

Accurate Gents,

I fish fairly frequently out of Las Arenas (Isla Cerralvo area). The
beach at Punta Arena is known as one of the best, if not the best,
roosterfish beach in the world. Typically, we fish Isla Cerralvo and
its surrounds in the morning, and if we've caught some ladyfish or a
cocinero that would serve as bait for roosters, we slow troll at Punta
Arena on the way back to the launch. On Saturday (Aug-30-08) we had a
single Spanish mackerel which barely fit the description of
roosterfish bait. Spanish Mackerel are not all that common in the Sea
of Cortez. So I asked my captain, Lalo Lucero (supporting actor in the
attached photo), if he had any experience baiting roosters with
Spanish Mackerel. He said this was a first, and regarded it as another
of our experiments. Occasionally our experiments pay off but usually
they flop.

We fish light gear (20 pound P-Line, Accurate 270C, Calstar GFGR
700XL) for roosters, and prepared the Spanish mackerel as if it was a
ladyfish; 9/0 Eagle Claw circle hook through the upper lip, slow
trolling about 150 feet behind the boat. Usually, large live baits
have to soak for a while with roosters; sometimes for several hours,
which is why ladyfish are the first choice. But in this case the bait
got picked up within about a minute of reaching trolling distance.
That initially caused us to suspect it to be a needlefish..Needlefish
typically don't pester ladyfish, but one of our initial concerns was
that a Spanish mackerel might be more attractive to them.

Clearly this was the real thing, and the battle that ensued caused us
to be very late getting back to the launch. The Accurate 270C needed
to be flawless in operation. Roosters take long hard runs and the drag
needs to be smooth and consistent from beginning to end. For most of
the fight, the line was making that "plinking" sound monofilament
makes just before it breaks so any variation in the reel would have
caused us to lose this fish. Kudos to the Calstar as well, for such a
soft touch, especially as the fish neared the boat and the amount of
elasticity in the line went to zero. Between the Accurate and the
Calstar, I was able to wear the fish down and bring him to the boat
for a great photo-op.

I won this particular Accurate 270C as a jackpot prize on a long range
trip. It was my fourth Accurate reel, but it has become my favorite. I
especially like the long throw of the lever drag, which helps a lot
with roosters where you want to increase pressure evenly and gradually
as you set the circle hook.  This reel makes it possible to target big
fish with light tackle, and that makes fishing more fun.

Thanks,
Jamie Lawson

New Pit Bull Clamp for Cork Jig Rods

Accurate has released a new device certain to appeal to jig casters, those anglers who favor longer rods with “deckhand-style” cork or tape-wrapped handles. The new, much wider and stronger clamp holds rod and reel together over a much greater gripping area, and will obviously be less prone to loosening, slipping or getting mounted askew.

The new clamp is made from solid 6061 T6 aluminum with a lightening hole in the center. It’s fastened by six Allen nuts instead of the former pair of nuts on the older clamps, so it should grip like a Pit Bull. The reel to rod connect is very secure with no movement. It was recently tested at Guadalupe Island of Mexico by Jack Nilsen and other anglers.

If you are interest please contact us at the factory for price and availability.
