Nice Bluefin Uncle Joe

Tommy Rothery docked his Polaris Supreme at Fisherman's Landing July 29 after a five-day trip that fished hard offshore and at Cedros Island. His 20 anglers, led by chartermaster Dr. Alan Hermer, found great yellowtail fishing and a few albacore. A couple of bluefin made it into the jackpot.

Joe DeMarco of San Gabriel, formerly partnered with Jack Nilsen at Accurate, won second place for a 31-pound bluefin. Joe said he got his fish with a sardine on a 2/0 Mustad hook on 30-pound Big Game line on an Accurate 870 reel and a custom Accurate seven-foot rod.

ROBERTO AND HIS ACCURATE BOSS 665

Roberto is a panga captain on the Tony Reyes charter operation out of San Felipe, Baja. Roberto has been our panga skipper for the last two trips on the Tony Reyes. Last June I left one of my Boss 665 reels with Roberto as a thank you gift for his excellent fishing and boating skill that helps us have a great time on our trips.

Robert recently landed this grouper that weighed in excess of 400 pounds. Absolutely amazing on the small Accurate Boss reel.

Congratulations Roberto for this truly amazing catch.

Team Miller's Ale House wins PTTS Team Of The Year Title

Congrats to Artie Price, Greg DeVault, Jon Turner and Frank Massaro!
For the 5th time in the past 6 years, Capt. Artie Price and team Accurate captured the Professional Tarpon Tournament Series coveted "Team of the Year" title in Boca Grande Florida.

"It's hard to imagine that such a small, lightweight reel can be engineered in a way that it will handle the abuse of tournament tarpon fishing. For me, it's a dream come true" -Artie Price

Team Miller's Ale House uses our smallest Boss reel; the BX-400XN to do battle with these big Tarpon. A winning combination.

BX2-500 Sideplates

Check out the sideplates on our 10 pallet horizontal machining center.

Joe and BX2-400 put the hurt to 100lb-plus tuna

This year I purchased three BX2 reels: 400, 500, 600N. On an early June 5-day on the Excel, I caught thirty-plus bluefin (ave. 30lb) on the 400. I had an 8-day scheduled for early July, so I called your service department to see if I should have the reel serviced, after catching all those bluefin. George answered the phone and helped me to check out the reel to see if I needed to send it in. We decided that I did not.

Fast forward three weeks to my July 3-11 eight-day on the Red Rooster III. The tuna at Alijos were finicky, so I fished the BX2 400 full of 50lb Spectra and a short (20yd) 40lb fluorocarbon topshot (on an 8ft Seeker CJBF80). Caught several tuna 20lb-50lb the first day.

That evening I changed out my topshot to a 45 lb Seaguar Premier Fluoro I had made. Next morning I hooked a real unit. More than an hour later a 122lb YFT comes over the rail. I'm thinking, Dang, this little reel rocks! And I'm also thinking, hey, I've got my fish, my trip is made so, to change out to a 50lb topshot on the outfit, not really caring whether I get a bite or not. Yeah, I know, the BX2-400 is not a 50lb reel.

A few minutes later I hook up yep, another unit. This time I fish the set-up at 17-18lb drag and get a 107lb YFT to the boat in 20 minutes.

Conclusion: These Boss Extreme 2-Speeds are absolutely the ticket. Yep, Small Reels - Big Fish!

I'll be dropping all three reels by your service department in the next week or two. I imagine that 400 could use a little TLC. Or maybe not!

Thanks for making such a great product.

Coastal White Seabass on Boss Extreme Reels

> I got a report that I just had to check out. The crew included Chuck Fedak and Richard Ruffini. We left Dana Point at 3pm yesterday and ran a couple of hours to the spot. Once we arrived we set up on a squid nest and began snagging squid in the daylight. True to the intel that I had, as soon as it got dark the fish started to bite. I caught the first fish on a live squid. I knew when I hooked it that it was big. After two trips around the boat I landed a 40# yellowtail. Actually it weighed 39.5# on the scale the next morning after being bled.
> Next I got bit on a flylined squid. Another trip around the boat and Chuck sunk the gaff in a 35# white seabass. Next Chuck got bit on a flylined squid with a small egg sinker. He got smoked and was finally able to turn the fish. Richard sunk the gaff in another 35# seabass. Next Richard caught a 30# class seabass and Chuck and I each caught another. We fished until 0200 and had a steady pick. I broke one off and Richard pulled the hook on another one. All in all we ended up with 5 seabass from 30 - 35# and one 40# yellowtail

RR3 JUNE HEAT & ACCURATE

On May 29th the Red Rooster III set sail on her annual 15 day “June Heat” Accurate Fishing Products trip with Captain Andy Cates at the helm. The trip started out drift fishing in the “buffer zone” at Clarion Island. We were soon rewarded with fair action on medium grade 60# to 100# Yellow Fin Tuna. After four days of decent fishing on YFT we set sail for Hurricane Bank in hopes of finding some biting Wahoo. We weren’t disappointed as most people got close to Mexican limits of the “Skinnies” before we headed back to the Clarion, hopefully for action on a better grade of Yellow Fin.

We arrived mid-morning on the 6th day of fishing and set out on a drift in a bird school. We were immediately rewarded with non-stop action on the kite and fly-lined sardine with 150# to 300 plus pound YFT. Many of the fishermen were using some of the $75,000 worth of Accurate loner reels and Cal Star and Seeker rods and were very appreciative to experience the use of premium equipment.

The action on YF Cow style fishing continued for two days until there was no room left in the fish holds. The last day we released anything that was under 200#’s. With the fish holds full and many tired Fishermen Andy pointed the bow to the North and we headed for San Diego.

During the trip Accurate provided tee shirts for all and daily jackpots of various prizes including three beautiful Accurate Boss Reels. Lucky reel winners were Thad Peach, Joe Arimitsu and Allen Jackson. In addition “Wild” Bill Walsh will have his choice of any Accurate Reel up to an Atd 50-wide for catching the largest 300# YFT on an Accurate ATD 80 kite rig.

The final count was 180 Yellow Fin Tuna and 140 Wahoo. The catch included 3 tuna over 300#’s and 39 tuna over 200#’S. Jackpot winners were:

1st place Thad Peach 305.5# YFT

2nd place “Wild” Bill Walsh 302.1# YFT

3rd place Sam Olson 298.5# YFT

Once again the Red Rooster III Accurate “June Heat”trip turned out to be a trip of a lifetime for most on board. A special thanks to the Red Rooster crew (Joe, Tommy, Fernando, Nick and Ricky, the fabulous cook Rick and helper Stan and of course Captain Andy Cates for another outstanding performance.

Accurate Fishing Products and the Red Rooster III will be offering the same trip next year May 28th thru June 12th. In addition we sponsor a Fall trip 12/9 days with a fly back option from Cabo San Lucas, Nov. 12th thru Nov 24th. For booking information contact the Red Rooster III office at (619) 224-3857 or go to their website (www.redrooster3.com). Hope to see you next year on the Red Rooster III. Thanks for checking in.

Leo Reihsen Accurate Pro-Staffer

I want to thank Accurate Reels and the crew of the Red Rooster 3 for putting me on my biggest tuna to date. We were fishing outside Clarion Island on the 2010 Accurate sponsored June Heat trip. Using the boat's kite gear, a Accurate 80 with heavy string and a Calstar 760XXH and double sardine rig, I hooked a monster. I was going out within 30 feet of the boat when I got bit. Never saw the fish bite but a huge swirl. Slowly pushed the lever drag up to strike while moving to the rail I could feel this was a big one. The fish made one strong run off the stern and I got on my knees and bent the rod high, leaning on the rail. I was able to turn the fish and got half of my line back. Then the fish took a second strong run. This fish was not going to be easy. I have caught several cows on the Red Rooster with this same outfit, this fish was in a different class. The fish went up to the bow and started to lay out and settle in. As the fish went around the bow, Nick the Deckhand assisted getting over the anchor. "This is a big fish" He said "and You got the right equipment". Using the swells and timing the cranks I was barely able to get the head up, but Nick's call for a backup gaff was a relief. You get dumbfounded when you see a 300 pounder circling. Tom and Nick both yelled "lift" and two gaffs went in. Wow!! Open the side gate and the crew slid her (him) in.

The fish taped on the Rooster's deck at 302.

Will it weigh 300 at the docks? I did not get my hopes up but it could go either way. Weigh in at the landing was 302.2 Yea!!

Wish every angler could expierence that feeling... An Accurate sponsored Long Range trip allowed me to get my biggest fish and as a bonus for catching a tuna over 300# gave me my choice of reel up to a 50 Wide.
I recieved my ATD-50T two days ago. It will be put to good use for sure...

Thanks Jack...
